Our Vision

The Vision for the SIPF is to be a catalyst in assisting the Island’s populace to rediscover traditional occupations as well as emerging occupations, and explore technical and scientific advancements which can improve living and economic conditions.

The Center will promote and support activities that enhance the cultural and spiritual traditions of the island. Of utmost importance is the protection and conservation of the fragile environment and ecosystems of the islands; and to decrease the exodus from the Islands of those seeking employment elsewhere.

Our Mission

The Mission for the SIPF is to provide a living, active, learning laboratory both within and outside the Sporades Islands Center for Sustainable Life (SICSL) for all ages. This will be achieved through continuing education, cooperative learning and practices, experiential and practical activities, and ongoing projects. Both local expertise and outside professional and academic assistance will be utilized.

Sporades Center for Sustainable Life

Through education and cooperative learning, the Sporades Islands Preservation Foundation fosters the rediscovery of sustainable practices, traditional and progressive.

The Center (located in the town of Glossa, Skopelos Island) promotes the vitality of the Sporades islands’ fragile environment, agriculture, nautical pursuits, and traditional interdependent occupations and skills.

Our Goals

Our Goals are to:

  • Introduce new ways of using energy to conserve both natural and economic resources through projects with school children and their families
  • Educate the workforce and schoolchildren regarding current and emerging practices of traditional agriculture through a land lab program
  • Assist the community to expand current markets and create new profit markets through exploration of  commercial ventures via product testing, packaging and marketing
  • Enhance existing educational, cultural, and spiritual opportunities for the island’s residents through support activities such as  ‘lending’ use of the Center facilities and promotion of activities with the religious leaders of the islands
  • Promote ‘soft tourism’ through shared ventures, projects, and volunteerism  with the Sporades Islands Pathways program
